Nine Rivers Channel Development

A systematic approach to developing major waterways for navigation and flood control.

Overview

This procedure documents the nine major river systems and their development for transportation and water management.

Major River Systems

  1. 弱水 - Flows to 合黎, remainder to 流沙
  2. 黑水 - To 三危, enters 南海
  3. 河 - From 积石 to 龙门, south to 华阴, east to sea via nine branches
  4. 瀁/汉水 - From 嶓冢, becomes 汉水, enters Yangtze
  5. 江 - From 汶山, branches to 沱, enters sea
  6. 沇/济水 - Becomes 济水, enters Yellow River, exits at 陶丘
  7. 淮 - From 桐柏, joins 泗 and 沂, enters sea
  8. 渭 - From 鸟鼠同穴, joins 沣 and 泾, enters Yellow River
  9. 雒 - From 熊耳, joins 涧, 瀍, and 伊, enters Yellow River

Development Steps

  1. Source Identification

    • Locate river origin
    • Document starting elevation

  2. Course Mapping

    • Trace river path
    • Note confluences with other rivers
    • Identify termination point

  3. Channel Improvement
