Psychological Warfare Siege Defense
A comprehensive approach to defending a besieged city by manipulating enemy psychology and boosting defender morale.
Phase 1: Divine Legitimacy
- Create supernatural signs (e.g., birds gathering from ritual offerings)
- Claim divine instruction and appoint a "divine advisor"
- Issue commands in the name of the divine authority
Phase 2: Manipulate Enemy Behavior
- Spread rumors about what you fear (e.g., "we fear they will cut off our noses")
- Enemy, thinking to demoralize you, does exactly that
- This enrages defenders and strengthens resolve
Phase 3: Feign Weakness
- Send old people and women to man the walls
- Send negotiators to discuss surrender terms
- Bribe enemy commanders with personal appeals
- Enemy becomes complacent
Phase 4: The Surprise Attack
- Prepare innovative weapons (e.g., fire cattle with swords on horns)
- Attack at night with overwhelming noise and visual terror
- Follow with infantry assault
Key Principle
"Begin like a maiden, then strike like a fleeing rabbit" - lull the enemy into complacency before striking.
Expected Outcomes
- Enemy morale shattered
- Defender morale maximized
- Successful breakout or relief
Verification
- Confirm that the feigned weakness phase has genuinely induced enemy complacency before launching the surprise attack.
- Validate that innovative weapons and night-attack preparations are fully staged and tested before execution.
- Ensure defender morale has been bolstered through the divine legitimacy and psychological manipulation phases before committing to the final assault.
