Overview

This procedure describes how to submit a petition or appeal to imperial authority, particularly when seeking to save someone from punishment or death.

Steps

  1. Conceal your intentions - Hide your plans from your household who may try to stop you
  2. Exit secretly - Leave your residence without announcement
  3. Submit a written petition - Present a formal document stating your case
  4. Request immediate audience - Seek to be heard directly by the ruler
  5. Present your argument clearly - Explain the circumstances, such as:
    • The accused was intoxicated when the offense occurred
    • The offense does not warrant the severity of proposed punishment
    • Alternative explanations for the accused's behavior
  6. Accept the ruler's decision - Be prepared for the matter to be referred to formal debate or investigation

  • Petitioning on behalf of those who have offended powerful factions carries great personal risk
  • Family members may attempt to dissuade you for your own safety
  • Success depends on the ruler's disposition and political circumstances

Verification

  1. Confirm that the petition presents clear mitigating circumstances (intoxication, disproportionate punishment, alternative explanations) rather than mere emotional appeal.
  2. Validate that the petitioner has assessed the ruler's current disposition and political circumstances before seeking an audience.
  3. Ensure the petitioner is prepared to accept the ruler's decision regardless of outcome, including referral to formal debate or investigation.
