Diplomatic Intervention Persuasion Strategy

A framework for persuading a powerful state to intervene militarily on behalf of an ally under attack.

Overview

When seeking military aid from a powerful ally who is delaying assistance, use strategic arguments to demonstrate mutual interest.

Steps

  1. Acknowledge the Situation

    • Recognize that the ally knows of your distress
    • Address why they have not yet acted

  2. Establish the Value Relationship

    • Remind them why your state serves as their ally/partner
    • Emphasize that your submission and loyalty exists because of their strength

  3. Present the Urgency Argument

    • Enemy forces are already at your borders
    • Delay in assistance is based on false assumption that situation is not critical

  4. Articulate the Consequence Scenario

    • If situation becomes desperate, your state will be forced to make separate peace
    • This means territorial concessions to the enemy and alliance dissolution

  5. Frame the Loss for the Ally

    • Losing one ally while strengthening two enemies
    • Ask: What benefit does the ally gain from this outcome?

Expected Outcome

The powerful ally recognizes that immediate intervention serves their own strategic interest, not just altruism, and dispatches military assistance.

Verification

  1. Confirm that the persuasion frames intervention as serving the ally's strategic interest, not merely requesting charity or fulfilling obligation.
  2. Validate that the consequence scenario (forced separate peace, territorial concessions, alliance dissolution) has been articulated clearly.
  3. Check that the ally understands the concrete loss: weakening themselves by losing one ally while simultaneously strengthening two enemies.
