Harold had once been a prodigious young man, but due to his family's poverty, his grandfather had to sell all their possessions. His teacher provided financial support, allowing him to attend high school. However, on his way there, he was conscripted by the government for research, which kept him away for three years and caused him to miss the college entrance exams. The village chief's family was furious that Harold had taken the opportunity to study in the provincial capital, so when he returned, they subjected his family to constant belittlement and even tried to drive them out of the village.
