Ethan Mercer spends his childhood hiding his gifts in feng shui and healing to respect his grandmother's wishes. He keeps up the act of being slow, and it works until his eighteenth birthday, when the three families they're all connected to publicly cancel their engagements and mock him in front of everyone. That forces his hand. When he stops hiding, the talent he reveals is so far beyond what anyone expected that the same families who just discarded him become desperate to get back in his good graces.
