Arthur takes a marriage assignment to wed Rosalind, a sickly woman from a failing family. Her relatives dismiss him as talentless and weak. He dismisses their contempt and begins solving problems the only way he knows: with his bare hands. While the magic-obsessed world watches a powerless man work through increasingly dangerous obstacles, Arthur heals his wife and awakens her latent abilities. Enemies multiply. Imperial knights mobilize. But every opponent he faces learns the same lesson: he doesn't need magic to break magic itself. Rosalind rises alongside him as the empire's hierarchies crumble.
