Ryan Bennett's mother is dying. The only chance to save her lies in winning the Beastmaster's test, a brutal competition where contestants summon and command creatures. Ryan enters despite his reputation as unremarkable, harboring none of the natural talent other competitors flaunt. His first summoning breaks everything. Instead of a single beast, he manifests a mutant swarm unlike anything the judges have ever witnessed. Suddenly he's the one everyone wants. But power attracts attention from dangerous factions, and betrayal cuts deeper than any rival's blade.
