After Corvus Blackwood labels Minister of War Garrison Vane a traitor, Lord Thorne unleashes violence on the Vane Estate, forcing Garrison's children Arthur and Elara Vane into the streets. In Elara Vane, Elara vows revenge, commits the flower-shaped birthmark on Thorne's chest to memory, and confronts him in a palace showdown—rejecting his appeals to their past romance and striking him down with her sword.
