A younger sister stands beside a duke everyone else dismisses, caught in a world where fate seems to have already decided everything. The nobility circles him like predators, certain he deserves their contempt. But she starts to pull at the threads of what she's been told, asking questions that no one else will ask. The answers lead somewhere dangerous; they suggest that the life everyone is living, the choices they think they made, might have been written for them long before they were born. She has to find a way to wake people up to what they are, and who they could actually be.
