Clara's gambling addiction led her to leave her granddaughter Kacie alone in the kitchen. Kacie used her smartwatch to call her mother Ella, who noticed something wrong before the battery died. Ella couldn't reach Clara and called her husband Devin, who was with his ex and dismissed her worries as overreaction. Kacie died of gas poisoning. Devin only faced the truth at the funeral home.
