A piece of the puzzle remains on board only if it has been placed right. Otherwise, it is automatically returned to the pool. Tip: the assembly will be go much easier if you start with the corner pieces. You can scroll the pool right and left by 'pressing' it with your fingertip (or with the left mouse button). Also, there is a button in the upper left corner of the puzzle assembly screen with an 'eye' on it: this is the hint switch. The hint can be shown or hidden at any given time.
